BREAST SURGERY GUIDE
Breast surgery: augmentation, lift or reduction?
“I want better-looking breasts” is not enough to choose surgery. First identify whether the main issue is volume, sagging, excess weight or a combination.

First identify the main problem
Volume is missing
Augmentation is mainly considered.
The breast has dropped
A breast lift is mainly considered.
It is too large or heavy
Reduction is considered.
More than one problem is present
A combination of techniques may be needed.
First identify what needs to be corrected. Then choose the procedure.
Implant size is not chosen by cc alone
Chest width, existing tissue, skin, desired shape and implant position all matter. Two people with the same implant volume can look very different.
The more skin that must be removed, the more the scar pattern can change
The more skin that needs reshaping or removal, the more the incision pattern may change. Ask where scars will be and why that technique fits your breast.
The implant alone does not decide the result
First the plan is defined: whether you need volume, a lift or both, how much skin there is, where volume should go and what shape is realistic on your chest. Only after that does it make sense to talk about implant brand and model.
Before surgery, you should know what recovery will involve
Ask how long you may need to limit arm movement, exercise, work and sleeping positions, and what follow-up is planned. If implants are used, ask what device documentation you will receive.
5 useful questions for your consultation
In my case, do I need augmentation, a lift, a reduction or a combination?
Why do you recommend this implant size and this position?
Where will the scars be and what determines them?
What result is realistic for shape, volume and symmetry?
What will recovery look like and which follow-up visits or documents will I receive?
So: augmentation, lift or reduction?
If the main issue is loss of volume, augmentation may be considered. If the breast has dropped, lifting is the main problem. If volume and weight are excessive, reduction comes into play. When problems overlap, a combination may be needed. First define what must be corrected, then choose the technique.
BEFORE YOU DECIDE
Are you considering breast surgery?
You can request an assessment even if you do not yet have a surgical proposal. If you are starting from zero, we begin with what you want to improve. If you have photos and a surgical proposal, we can help you understand what the procedure is trying to correct, whether an implant is planned, where scars may be and how recovery is organised.
Request an assessment →This guide is for general information and does not replace an in-person consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon. Indication, technique, risks and recovery must be assessed individually.
