HAIR TRANSPLANT TECHNIQUES GUIDE

FUE vs DHI: what actually changes in a hair transplant?

FUE and DHI are often marketed as two completely different transplants. In reality they describe different parts of the procedure, and understanding that helps you avoid choosing by label alone.

01

FUE mainly describes harvesting

With FUE, follicular units are extracted individually from the donor area. It does not mean “scarless”: small dot scars remain, usually less visible than a linear scar.

02

DHI mainly describes graft placement

DHI is commonly used to describe direct placement with an implanter-type device. It is not a separate donor harvesting method from FUE: a procedure may use FUE harvesting followed by implanter placement.

03

The technique name does not determine the result

Graft handling, donor preservation, hairline design, recipient-site angles and careful placement matter. A “premium” label cannot rescue poor planning or execution.

FUE describes harvesting; DHI mainly describes how grafts are implanted

Those labels alone do not determine quality. The result depends on graft handling, donor-area management, hairline design and who performs the surgical stages.

04

Choose the protocol around the case

Hair type, area to cover, graft number, shaving preferences and team workflow can make one implantation approach more practical than another.

05

4 questions to really compare FUE and DHI

How will the grafts be harvested and how will the donor area be protected?

How will the recipient sites be created and the grafts implanted?

Who personally performs harvesting, recipient-site creation and implantation?

Why is this protocol more suitable for my case than the alternatives?

So: FUE or DHI?

Do not choose a clinic because it writes “DHI” instead of “FUE”. First check the donor area, graft number, hairline, who performs the surgical steps and why that implantation method was chosen for you. The technique name comes after the plan.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE

Considering FUE or DHI and want to know what really changes?

You can request an assessment even if you do not yet have a quote. If you are starting from zero, we begin with the first details about your case. If you received an FUE or DHI quote, we can help you read the graft count, donor management, doctor-performed steps and the logic of the plan.

Request an assessment

This guide is for general information and does not replace a medical assessment. The cause of hair loss, suitability for surgery and the transplant plan must be assessed individually.
